September is one of my absolute favorite months of the year for two reasons. First, the temperatures finally start dropping back down to a comfortable level and second, I appreciate time with my kids more on the weekends now that they’re back in school. We use both of these things to our advantage with family picnics on the weekends and after dinner time together around the fire pit. The cooler weather allows us to break out the ingredients for some good old fashioned s’mores and other s’mores desserts that the kids can help me bake.
Of course, there’s nothing quite as fun as getting the kids in the kitchen to help with a poke cake.
This cake is extra moist and oh-so-gooey with channels of marshmallow creme in every bite! And of course, the kids can even help decorate this cake with traditional s’mores toppings like crushed graham crackers, mini marshmallows and chocolate chips.
