Combining Flavorful Favorites for a Lunchtime Treat

Did you know that August is National Sandwich Month? One of my favorite memories growing up is waiting for my cousin to come over to my grandma's house after school and enjoying PB & J sandwiches with him. He would always tell my sister and I that if we wanted to learn to whistle we'd have to eat our crusts. I ate mine every time and do you know that 'til this day I can't whistle?
As a Kraft Tastemaker, I'm excited that it's National Sandwich Month. With school right around the corner I'm always on the lookout for great sandwich recipes. It's fun to make special sandwiches and to include other treats for my kids to enjoy at lunchtime. Some of my favorite tips for packing a delicious and memorable lunch include:
Keep it simple - I've found that my kids love things that are easy to eat & don't require a lot of utensils or assembly, this makes it easy on me because I'm not a morning person.
Be creative - It's fun to cut sandwiches into shapes or to make a face with fruit, it gets the kids laughing and they always tell me about it later.
Put a note in their lunch box - I started including notes in each child’s lunch box when they went to camp this summer and they loved it so much I can't wait to do it again once school starts.
As my kids get older they are eating more and more. It won't be long before I'll be making them sandwiches to enjoy as an after school snack like I did with my sister and cousin when I was their age. That's why I'm thrilled with how this Tomato Basil Grilled Cheese Sandwich turned out. I used fresh cherry tomatoes and basil from our garden along with KRAFT SINGLES.
It was easy to make and so full of summer flavor that it's become one of my favorite sandwiches. I look forward to making it for the kids once they start school, they'll be excited to come home to such a delicious grilled cheese sandwich.
Tomato Basil Grilled Cheese
4 slices of wheat bread
4 slices of KRAFT SINGLES American Cheese
6 cherry tomatoes sliced in half
4 fresh basil leaves
2 Tbsp. butter
HEAT a griddle on med-low. Spread butter on one side of each of the 4 slices of bread.
PLACE bread butter side down on the griddle. Top two slices of bread with cheese, basil, and tomatoes. Top these slices of bread with the other two slices to make a sandwich.
HEAT until bread is golden brown, then flip. Heat until the other side is golden brown and cheese is melted, then remove from griddle. Serve and enjoy.
Serving Size: 2 sandwiches
