Southern Style Pancakes

what you need
  • 1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar (or a little more)
  • 1 large egg
make it
Lightly spray a large skillet with non-stick spray. Combine all the ingredients in a medium bowl, stirring with a spoon ONLY to point that everything is mixed together. (It will be lumpy.) Let mixture rest 4-5 minutes while the skillet heats up.

When it is medium-hot, pour pancakes one at a time, making them the size your family likes. Cook, turning once until pancakes are golden brown on both sides.

While pancakes are cooking, put a small pat of butter on each person's plate and cover with syrup. Smash together with a fork until it is all mixed together. When the pancakes are done, slide them directly onto the plates, melting the butter in the syrup under them.
Notes
Children love to smash the butter and syrup together, and it keeps them busy while the pancakes are cooking!

Because this is so quick and easy, it's great for any morning of the week!
