Makes: 12-15 servings Total Time: 15 min
Category: Breads Sub Category: Quick Breads

what you need
  • 1 cup yellow corn meal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Kraft Grated Sharp Cheddar (or favorite Kraft cheese)
  • 1 tsp. New England style bay seasoning
  • ¼ cup minced fresh onions
  • ½ tsp. garlic powder (or 1 clove fresh, finely minced)
  • ¼ - ½ cup milk
make it
Preheat frying oil to 350 degrees F. In a medium bowl, mix all but last ingredient thoroughly. Slowly add milk until mixture is moistened. Mix Thoroughly.

You should be able to make soft 1" balls with your hand. Add more or less milk as needed.

Fry balls in oil until golden brown on outside, about 5-8 minutes.
If mixture is too moist the Hush Puppies will not hold together in oil. If you make them too big they will not cook through.

These are great with your fresh catch but fry the Hush Puppies first, before the fish as they can be re-heated without hurting the flavor.
