what you need
- 2/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
- 1 1/2 cups packed light brown sugar
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 4 1/2 cups flour
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 cup buttermilk or sour milk*
- 2 cup (12 oz. pkg.) mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 2 cups chopped walnuts or pecans
- Vanilla frosting (optional)
- Colored sugar or sprinkles (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease cookie sheet. Beat butter, brown sugar and sugar until well blended. Add eggs and vanilla; beat until creamy. Stir together flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt; add alternately with buttermilk to butter mixture, beating well after each addition. Stir in mini chocolate chips and nuts.
Drop by level 1/4 cup or heaping tablespoons 2" apart onto prepared cookie sheet.
Bake 12 to 14 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to wire rack and cool completely. Frost with favorite vanilla frosting; garnish with colored sugar, if desired.
Notes
*To sour milk: Use 1 Tbsp. white vinegar plus milk to equal 1 cup.
