Soft 'N Chewy Popcorn Balls

what you need
  • 8 oz. unpopped popcorn
  • 2/3 cup corn syrup
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2/3 cup boiling water
  • 2 Tbsp. white vinegar
  • 2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 2 Tbsp. melted butter
  • 1/8 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
make it
Pop popcorn and place in large pan. Combine syrup, sugar, water, and vinegar. Heat to boiling. Add cream of tartar, and boil to soft crack stage (275-280 degrees F).

Remove from heat and add butter, baking soda, and vanilla. (Add a little food coloring if desired.) Pour over popcorn, stirring as you pour.

Shape into balls and lay on waxed paper. Wrap and store.
Notes
Spray non stick spray on pan before popped corn goes in and rub butter on hands before making balls. This is a wonderful recipe. The syrup stays soft while you stir, and the popcorn balls are chewy.
