Walnut & Date Yum Yums

what you need
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1-1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 eggs, unbeaten
  • 3 cups all purpose flour, sifted
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. water
  • 1 pkg. (8 oz.) pitted dates, snipped or cut up
  • 1 cup walnut pieces
make it
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Prepare cookie sheets. Blend shortening and butter with sugar in large mixing bowl at medium speed, until fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Sift dry ingredients together. Add to mixture a little at a time and beat thoroughly. Add water to dates. Stir dates into mixture. Fold in nuts.

Drop by heaping teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets.

Bake for 12-15 minutes.
This is a really old recipe for us. We don't grease our cookie sheets anymore. Our family uses the silicon baking mats for even temperature.
