what you need
- Canola oil for frying
- 1 tube (16.3 oz.) reduced-fat flaky layers biscuit dough
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar
- 1 can (16 oz.) chocolate frosting
- Jimmes (sprinkles) or flaked coconut for decoration
make it
In large pot, heat oil. Oil is ready for frying when you put a pinch of flour in the oil and it sizzles. Separate dough into biscuits, using a 1-1/2" round cutter, cut out center of each biscuit, reserve holes. Carefully slide donut rings, in batches, into oil. Cook, turning once, until golden and puffed, 2-3 min per side. Use a slotted spoon to transfer donuts to racks. Cool completely.
In large plastic food bag, combine cinnamon and sugar. Cook donut holes, 1 min per side, cool slightly. Add warm holes to cinnamon mix, toss to coat.
In microwave safe bowl, microwave frosting on high in 15-second intervals until melted. Dip tops of donut rings into frosting, place on rack, sprinkle with flaked coconut or jimmies. Let stand until set, about 20 min.
Notes
These are so easy, but delicious. You can use all kinds of different toppings and frostings, just use your imagination.
