what you need
- 1 pkg. (8 oz.) Philadelphia Light Cream Cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1-1/2 cups sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1-1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 jar (10 oz.) maraschino cherries, chopped in half
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- GLAZE:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 2-3 Tbsp milk
- 1 jar (10 oz.) maraschino cherries, chopped in half for topping bars
make it
Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray a 15-by-10-inch sheet pan with cooking spray, lightly flour. In medium-sized bowl, beat cream cheese, butter and sugar until well blended. Beat in eggs one at a time. Beat in vanilla. In another bowl, mix flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Add flour mix to cream cheese mix and mix well. Stir in cherries and nuts. Spread mixture evenly in pan.
Bake for 30 min or until toothpick inserted near center comes out clean. Remove to rack.
Mix glaze: In small bowl, mix powdered sugar and cocoa. Add vanilla and milk-just enough to make a fairly thick glaze. Drizzle bars with glaze. Cool. Cut into 4 dozen bars. Top each bar with a half of a maraschino cherry. Store airtight.

My mom used to make these every Christmas Eve and they were always delicious.
