It’s easy to liven up your next party or just family dinner—add a pinch of summer!
Ever gone to a “Christmas in July” party? Well, we think that hosting a luau in winter sounds like just the ticket to sending those winter doldrums packing. Sounds like too much work? Turn a family meal into a “barbecue” or serve summery drinks, appetizers, and desserts at a card party. You can even take a tropical dish as your offering at a party you’re attending.
Bring out the blender.
Frozen fruity drinks are a luau must-have. Luckily you don’t have to spend a lot on fresh fruit to serve up some classics. Our Strawberry Kiwi Mock Margarita and Citrus Margarita Cooler recipes both get their flavor from Crystal Light Drink Mix. Another perk of making your own margaritas? Summer often means more seafood fare, but even in winter there are plenty of readily available options. To keep things simple, start with precooked shrimp or canned crabmeat. We like ours served on top of Triscuit Crackers, as in our Hot Crab Bites and California Shrimp Topper recipes. The topping for the “bites” is both creamy and cheesy and tastes like restaurant-style crab dip. Flaked coconut, mandarin oranges, and canned pineapple are summery dessert ingredients you can find year-round. They’re also the key flavors in some of our favorite “tropical” desserts.
