Grilled Chicken Tips and Tricks

Let’s Cook

  • Boneless chicken breasts are popular for grilling but can easily dry out from their lack of internal fat.  To lessen this problem, consider marinating chicken breasts in your favorite KRAFT Dressing for at least 30 minutes before grilling. (Be sure to discard the marinade after removing the chicken from the marinade.)  Brush the chicken with additional dressing or KRAFT Barbecue Sauce for the last few minutes of the grilling time.
  • KRAFT Barbecue Sauce adds irresistible flavor to grilled chicken.  To prevent the sauce from burning, brush it onto the grilled chicken just for the last 5 to 6 min. of the grilling time.
  • For a change of pace, brush the grilled chicken with a mixture of KRAFT Real Mayo Mayonnaise and GREY POUPON Mustard instead of barbecue sauce.
  • To prevent chicken from sticking to the grill, lightly brush the grill grate with vegetable oil before preheating the grill. Or, spray the cold grill grate with cooking spray.
  • Keep a water squirt bottle handy when grilling chicken to douse any flare-ups.
  • Food safety is very important when dealing with any raw meat, such as chicken.  After placing the chicken on the grill, be sure to wash the platter or pan that held the raw chicken with hot soapy water before reusing it for the cooked chicken.  It’s also a good idea to use two separate sets of tongs for turning the raw and cooked chicken on the grill.

Kraft Kitchens Secrets

  • Chicken wings are an inexpensive party staple.  We love to cook them on the grill with new BULL’S-EYE Memphis or Kansas City Style Barbecue Sauce.  Or, mix up our own special sauce like the one used in this recipe for Asian Honey BBQ Chicken Drummettes.
  • Although boneless chicken breasts are popular, grilling bone-in chicken with the skin on creates a spectacularly moist and flavorful dish.  To prevent the skin from burning, be careful that the grill isn’t too hot when cooking the chicken.

  • For a restaurant-style touch, add grill marks to your grilled chicken. Just place the chicken diagonally across the hot oiled grill grates, and then grill as usual. For a special touch, rotate the chicken a quarter-turn halfway through the grilling time on each side to create criss-crossed grill marks.
