Summer party planning tips
When planning your menu, think “variety” - serve foods with an assortment of colors, flavors and textures. Also consider grilled versus cold items, so you don’t run out of space on your barbecue.
If serving cold dips, potato or pasta salads, make them a day in advance. Not only will this reduce your kitchen prep duties on the day of the party, but the flavors will improve with the overnight refrigeration time.
Corn on the cob is a must-have at any summer gathering. If you haven’t tried it, Fantastic Grilled Corn on the Cob is the way to go, and there is a video on How to Buy, Prepare and Grill Corn on the Cob.
Food safety is important! Remember to keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold when serving them at a party.
Prepare for the summer months by making and freezing your own hamburger patties. Simply season your ground beef and shape into patties. Then place each patty in between a piece of wax paper so they do not get stuck together during the freezing process. Place in a resealable freezer-weight plastic bag and lay them flat in the freezer so the patties maintain their shape. Store for up to 3 months.
