Do you always watch for the longest day of the year and then miss it? (Gatsby fans, I’m talking to you.)
Unlike Daisy, I never miss it because for me, June 21 is the epitome of summer. Trees are still busy leafing out, kids aren’t bored yet, we’re all anticipating fireworks and pool parties and sweet corn. So I like to take this day and celebrate, in the lowest-key way possible, by setting out a pitcher of Pomegranate Sangria (it’s alcohol-free!) and inviting the neighbors over. We sit on the deck and ease into the warm evening. When the shadows start to get long, my husband grills up some chili dogs and I cut open a watermelon. Simple, right? Just like summer should be.
