When August rolls around, it is the height of summer in my neck of the woods. I’m reminded to enjoy the warm weather while it lasts and get outside with my kids as much as possible before school starts. Picnics are a fabulous way to experience the great outdoors. Whether you like to take your picnic somewhere special or simply roll out a blanket in the backyard, everyone can enjoy this quality family time centered around a delicious meal.
I always like to offer plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. I find it refreshing on a hot day, and it makes me feel like I’m making smarter choices as a parent. Since peaches are currently in abundance, I decided to make a very simple dessert for my family featuring this favorite summer fruit. This Peaches ‘N Cream Mason Jar Dessert can be accomplished with just a few ingredients and makes for a portable treat the whole family will love!
Transport them in a cooler to keep them nice and chilled until serving.
Skip the oven by purchasing prepared angel food cake from your grocery store bakery. Dress up your mason jars with colorful cupcake liners and attach spoons to the side with twine for easy serving. If you want to get really fancy like I did, use wooden spoons and garnish with half a peach slice and some fresh mint for a pop of color. (Since I have mint growing out of my ears from my container herb garden, I try to sneak that in whenever I can.)
