There’s nothing more satisfying than that first sip of ice-cold lemonade on a steamy afternoon. Unless we’re talking about strawberry lemonade. Or a frozen lemonade slush. Or raspberry-lemonade pie. Or—well, you get the idea. Lemonade is a summer classic for a reason, and I’m taking it to the next level with these twists on an old favorite.
Am I the only one who gets starry-eyed at the prospect of a new year? Last year’s challenges seem to fade into the background—it’s a clean slate! And in the midst of that annual enthusiasm, I pinkie-swear that this will be the year I eat more fruits and vegetables, keep my closet neatly organized and practice daily 5 a.m. sun salutations (that last one…oof). THANKSGIVING SEASON IS HERE! Can you tell I’m excited? Because I totally am. Thanksgiving is the gateway to the holiday season. It is the one day when comfy joggers are acceptable—no, requisite—attire. Continue reading
When it comes to high caloric drinks, I’m always looking to save. That’s why I’m excited to find there’s an easy way to make my favorite fall drink, Pumpkin Spice Latte, fit into my eating plan. The key here is to keep it real by using skim milk and real pumpkin puree. The end result is a foamy drink better than anything from my local coffeehouse. Continue reading
Time to hit the bottle! No, not THAT bottle—the bottle of seltzer. Everywhere I look, I’m seeing new varieties of sparkling water on the shelves. But how could I find a reason to buy all the flavors I’ve had my eye on? Brunch. Brunch is always the answer. This weekend I’m having some friends over to sample my small collection of upgraded bubbly water and enjoy my favorite better-than-a-restaurant recipes. If you find yourself in the same boat (as if you need a reason to make brunch), here are the dishes at the top of my list …dishes best accompanied by bubbly water.
On those mornings when I just want to hit the snooze button forever (OK, that’s most mornings), I need something that’s going to make me feel like the rock star/superhero/professional athlete that I am (deep down inside, anyway). And I need it to take 10 minutes or less to put together since I’ve snoozed through most of breakfast time. These fruit smoothie recipes fit the bill. Continue reading
Fall is just around the corner. Make the most out of these final summer days with an outdoor cookout complete with all the trimmings. That means making every kind of side salad under the sun—broccoli, macaroni, taco, pasta, cucumber, potato. To go with all that good food, we’ll be taking full advantage of summer’s bountiful fruit harvest by mixing up pitchers of summer sangrias.
