If you’re celebrating Easter, you’ve probably got enough on your plate without needlessly complicating your menu. But here’s good news: You can take fussy appetizers out of that equation and focus on the rest of the festivities (even if that means sneaking candy from the kids’ baskets while they’re distracted—no judgment). I’ve gathered the eight easiest pre-feast noshes I could find, including deviled eggs, breads, mini frittatas and a creamy dip recipe or two. A few years ago, I began avoiding the chaos that the holiday season often brings. Now, my family and I choose to focus on what’s important to us: time together, great food and traditions, and visiting with friends and extended family. We do that by limiting the number of events we attend—and thoroughly enjoying the ones we choose. We also stick to healthy routines like getting enough sleep, eating well and keeping on top of household and school obligations. By doing this each year, we’ve made one of our traditions a restful, enjoyable holiday season that we look forward to each December. Continue reading

When I was younger, Thanksgiving was my favorite holiday. Well, it was my secret favorite holiday. As a kid, your favorite holiday has to be Christmas just because of all the toys. In the bottom of my heart, though, Thanksgiving was my favorite. I enjoyed being around my entire family, watching my grandma preparing dinner and my grandfather carving the turkey. One of my most vivid memories is of my grandfather trying an electric knife for the first time. He was like a kid in a candy store. When he cut the turkey tableside, my brothers and I sat in amazement as the tender meat was sliced through like butter. Continue reading
