Haunted Halloween Goodies
October 22, 2013
Halloween is a fun holiday that allows us to be silly and creative. From unique homemade costumes to themed treats that make party guests smile, October is certainly a fun month to experiment. As part of the Kraft Tastemaker blogging program, Kraft sent me a fun box of Halloween goodies. From a dip tray to JET-PUFFED JUMBO PUMPKINMALLOWS to JELL-O JIGGLERS Halloween mold, there was so much from which to draw inspiration. I decided to create something that was sweet and another that was savory, but both were something anyone could make!
I absolutely love taking just a few ordinary ingredients and making them perfect for a holiday just by purchasing some inexpensive themed items. These Zombie Hand Pudding Cups use icing decorations and crushed chocolate sandwich cookies that I already had on hand for another Halloween project. I love using items I already have and whipped these up in only 10 minutes. If you don't have mini dessert glasses, you can substitute any clear plastic cup or parfait glass. And if you don't have some cool green zombie hands like these around, gummy worms will work in a pinch!
Zombie Hand Pudding Cups
Prep Time: 10 minutes • Cook Time: 10 minutes • Serves: 4-5
1 package (3.9 oz.) JELL-O Vanilla Instant Pudding
2 cups cold milk
6 chocolate sandwich cookies finely crushed
Green and yellow gel food coloring
Candy decoration (sugar candies like green zombie hands, ghosts, etc.)
ADD several drops of green food coloring (around 5-7 drops) and a few yellow drops of food coloring (around 2-3 drops) to milk to get desired lime green color. Whisk until blended.
BEAT pudding mix and green milk in medium bowl with whisk for 2 minutes.
POUR pudding into five 6 oz. dessert cups. Refrigerate at least five minutes to set pudding.
COVER with crushed chocolate sandwich cookies to resemble dirt. Insert candy decorations (such as zombie hand) into top and refrigerate until serving.
Consider using chocolate pudding or mousse if you would like the entire pudding cup to resemble dirt.
Kraft also sent me these fun Halloween picks and I really wanted to find a way to use them. I simply dug in my fridge and pantry to find items I could skewer. Consider creating other types of kabobs like Canadian bacon and pineapple or by adding additional ingredients like cherry tomatoes.
Spooky Halloween Skewers
Prep Time: 15 minutes • Cook Time: 15 minutes • Serves: 12+
3 sticks KRAFT or POLLY-O Mozzarella String Cheese
1 can (6 oz.) black olives, sliced
12 slices pepperoni
CUT each piece of string cheese into four equal pieces. Add ingredients to Halloween themed skewers. Chill until serving.
The best part about Halloween is that it is a great holiday to have a good time with friends and family. So celebrate by getting creative and have a little fun in the kitchen!
