A New Take on a Grilled Classic

Cheeseburgers are a grilled classic. We often change up the recipe and serve them a variety of ways. These Cheeseburger Slider Skewers are a fun way to make your cook-out extra special. Here in the Midwest, we like all sorts of different cheeseburgers; from the classic with ketchup, mustard, fresh tomatoes and lettuce - to the extraordinary cheeseburger served with a fried egg. So making the cheeseburgers into sliders and serving them on skewers was just another way to change up a classic but still enjoy a dish we love.

Not only do the toppings play a big role in how your cheeseburgers taste, but so does the cheese you put on it. In our house, I have a hard time keeping cheese in the refrigerator. Whether I'm whipping up a special Cheesecake with PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese or adding VELVEETA to our Macaroni and Cheese, my house full of men are always satisfied when I cook with cheese.

For these Cheeseburger Slider Skewers, the key to using wooden skewers on the grill is to be sure to soak them in water at least 30 minutes prior to using them. After soaking, we lay the skewers out onto a towel to soak up the excess water. The cheeseburgers are formed thicker than normal so that they don't fall off the skewers and also so they don't shrink when cooked. We found that if you make an indentation in the center of the burger prior to cooking, the meat cooks more evenly.
