Colorful, crunchy leaves, cooler temperatures, and school in full swing are all signs that autumn has arrived and I couldn't be more excited. I love everything about fall! I love cozy, comfy sweaters, but no coats! I love warm, vibrant earth tone colors inside and out. I love being able to bake without the house becoming too hot; and I especially love the warm, rich, and sometimes spicy flavors that we associate with autumn. I love comfort food, making it and sharing it; and I love everything that is preparing for the upcoming holidays! It's fall! Let's celebrate it with something DELISH!
I'm sharing with you, today, the fifth recipe that I've developed as a member of the Kraft Tastemakers team. It's a classic example of autumn flavors. Caramel Apple Pie Pockets will be perfect for any Harvest Celebration you are hosting, but they're just as good for everyday snacks and dessert, too. They're so easy to make, and with the abundance of fresh, ripe apples (or even pears) from the fall harvest, you can count on them having extraordinary flavor!
I started with refrigerated pie crusts, but you could certainly make your own from scratch, if you prefer. Each 9" round is cut into quarters, so with three crusts, you'll be able to make 12 Caramel Apple Pie Pockets. Once the crusts are divided, dice the apples and mix them with flour, sugar and spices. A quick egg wash over the triangle crusts and then all that's left is to fill them -- a couple tablespoons of apple filling, one tablespoon of caramel bits -- fold it and seal the edges then bake up a simple dessert that your family will ask for, again and again. They're perfect for lunchboxes, after-school snacking and with a scoop of ice cream they're a delectable dessert. I can't wait for you to try them. Enjoy!
