what you need
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 4 medium potatoes, sliced round
- 2 small onions, sliced
- 1 medium size cabbage, chopped (medium)
- 2 medium size pickled jalapeno peppers
- 1 can tomato sauce, (2 cans water)
- 1 large can diced stewed tomatoes
- 2 cloves garlic
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- (I also add a little chili powder)
make it
Brown ground beef, drain and set aside.
In Dutch oven put half of browned ground beef, top with half (2) sliced potatoes, top with half (1) sliced onion, half chopped cabbage and one sliced jalapeno pepper. Repeat layering ingredients until all gone. Pour over tomato sauce and stewed tomatoes. Top with remaining jalapeno pepper.
Simmer on top of stove until potatoes are done and cabbage tender (not over cooked).
Do not stir /mix ingredients when serving. Scoop out as if slicing pie (to get all layers of ingredients).
Notes
I really don't know what to call this, but my kids (now grown) were raised on this. They still call and ask me to cook it. Being tired of meatloaf, hamburgers etc., I started adding things.
