what you need
- 1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
- 2 lb. ground beef
- 1 lb. ground pork sausage
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 1/2 tsp allspice
- 1/2 cup or more flour to coat meatballs
- 2 cups light cream or half-and-half
make it
Heat fry pan with vegetable oil on burner over medium heat. Mix meats together with hands, add onions and hand mix well. Add eggs and milk, hand mix. Sprinkle spices over mixture and mix in. Roll meatballs in flour to cover lightly.
Place meatballs in fry pan and brown on all sides.
Heat a Dutch oven over burner on low heat. Once a batch of meatballs is browned, pour fry pan contents into heated Dutch oven, cover with cream. Repeat frying steps until all are warming in Dutch oven. Raise heat if necessary to boil lightly for 30 to 45 minutes. Check after 15 minutes to see if gravy is forming; if not, add 2 Tbsp. flour mixed into 1/3 cup milk and stir in. Stir occasionally to avoid coating bottom of pan.
Notes
These are great served with or over cooked rice or potatoes. Scalloped potatoes also make a great side dish.
