what you need

2/3 cup flour (unsifted)
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup butter or shortening
2 squares unsweetened chocolate
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup nuts chopped

make it

Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in bowl. Melt butter and chocolate over hot water in a pan. Beat eggs and sugar until well beaten; beat in chocolate and vanilla. Mix in flour mixture. Stir in nuts.

Spread into a well greased and floured 8" square pan.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 25 minutes. Cool before cutting.

by a cook on 11/20/2004 This is pretty much the same receipe that was on the Baker's Chocolate box many years ago. I have changed it a bit and use 3 squares of unsweetened chocolate. It works well to beat the eggs very well and then gradually add the sugar beating well. My family has always liked it with a basic powdered sugar frosting (powdered sugar, milk, butter and vanilla) and topped with sprinkles. I bake it in a 9 x 9 pan. My grandmother and mother made the same brownies.
