what you need

- 1 egg, unbeaten
- 1 tablespoon grated lemon peel
- 1 cup sour cream (Breakstone’s or Knudsen)
- 3 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
make it
Cream together sugar and shortening until fluffy. Add egg and grated lemon peel; beat well. Mix in sour cream. Sift together flour, salt, soda and baking powder; add to first mixture and mix well.
Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls on ungreased baking sheets. Flatten slightly with bottom of glass dipped in granulated sugar. Press in a pecan or walnut half, or a few raisins, if desired. Bake at 375 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes.
Notes
I sometimes chill the dough 1 hour before I start baking these cookies. This additional hour is not reflected in the total preparation time.
This is an old family favorite cookie recipe that doesn't hang around long once they are baked. But the longer they are kept, the more lemoney the flavor. This is a soft and delicate cookie---very tasty so enjoy!
