Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies

what you need
- 12 tablespoons (1- 1/2) sticks butter
- 1-1/4 cups firmly packed light brown sugar1/4 cup light corn syrup
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3/4 teaspoon baking power
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 large egg
- 2-1/4 cups unbleached all purpose flour
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 375. Beat the butter, light brown sugar, and corn syrup togeather until fluffy.
Beat in the vanilla, baking powder, salt, baking soda, and the egg. Beat well. Beat in the flour, then stir in the nuts and chocolate chips.
Drop cookie dough by the rounded tablespoon onto lightly greased or parchment-lined sheet pans. Bake for 12 to 14 minuts, just until lightly browned at the edges. For the chewiest cookies do not over bake.
Cool on wire rack for 5 minutes. For best results, let stand on cookie sheet for 1-2 minutes. Cookie will look slighty undone in the middle, but will set up as they cool.

This cookie was invented at the Toll House Restaurant (thus the name Toll House cookie) in Whitman Massachusetts, back in the 1930's.
