what you need
- 2 cups Minute Rice
- 2 cups water
- 1 can (8 oz.) tomato sauce
- 1 tomato sauce can water
- 1 pkg. Oscar Mayer Wieners, regular or low-fat
- 2-3 oz. (or more) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
make it
Cook rice as directed in water. Set aside.
Mix tomato sauce and water and heat. Cut hot dogs into 1/4 inch crosswise slices, and add to tomato sauce & water. Simmer until hot.
In same pan as rice was cooked, add hot dogs and sauce, mix well. Then add cheese, mix again. Put lid on pan, and allow cheese to melt. Mix again and serve.
Notes
Very tasty dish, with green salad and side vegetable. Kids love it, and always expect it when they came to visit. My grown sons still fix it for themselves.
I used to prepare the rice, then add sauce, water, cold hot dog slices, and cheese, put in a casserole, and put into oven to heat thru and melt for about 30 minutes. One day about 40 years ago, I put the lid on the pan while searching for the casserole dish, and when I lifted the lid, it was ready to eat, thereby eliminating need for oven.
