what you need
- Cake:
- 4 squares baking chocolate
- 1 cup butter
- 2.25 cups sugar
- 1.5 cups milk
- 3 cups sifted cake flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda, sifted
- .5 teaspoon baking powder, sifted
- .5 teaspoon salt
- 5 eggs, separated
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Frosting:
- 3 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
- .33 cup heavy cream
- .25 cup margarine
- 2 squares unsweetened chocolate
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- .25 teaspoon salt
make it
1. Melt baking chocolate over simmering water and add to butter and sugar creamed together well.
2. Add milk and flour with the baking soda, baking powder and salt alternately.
3. Then add the well-beaten egg yolks.
4. Beat the egg whites until they are stiff and add to the mixture.
5. Add vanilla.
6. Pour into two well greased and floured 9-inch cake pans.
7. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes.
8. While the cake is baking combine all the frosting ingredients in a bowl and stir until well blended.
9. When the cake is completely cool then frost.
