what you need
- 1 pound butter
- 2 pounds peanut butter
- 3 pounds powdered sugar
- 3 packages chocolate chips
- 1/4-1/2 bar paraffin wax
make it
Melt the butter and peanut butter together in a bowl, or pan, I use the microwave. Then pour over the powdered sugar in a large oversized bowl. Mix well with your hands; be sure not to burn yourself, but mix all the way to the bottom of the bowl. Once mixed, it should resemble a playdough, but not as pliable.
Roll dough into small balls, about 1" balls, and place on wax paper on cookie sheets, place toothpicks into the balls, but not all the way through them, then chill the balls.
Melt chocolate chips and wax together in a double boiler, until it is like chocolate syrup. Dip each ball 3/4 of the way up and replace on cookie sheet. Chill again, then enjoy.
Notes
The dough must be rolled while it is warm, you will notice that as the dough cools the balls tend to crumble, warm the dough in your hands as it cools to help form the balls. (Mom had 6 of us to help roll, so the dough never cooled too much before we were done).
These are to look like Buckeyes, from the Buckeye trees in Ohio, don't cover the balls completely with chocolate. They should turn out almost like round Reese’s Cups...ENJOY!
