what you need
- 1 1/2 lb. lean ground beef
- 2 Tbsp. finely chopped onion
- 2 Tbsp. canned diced green chilies, drained
- 1 can (4 oz.) mushroom stems and pieces, drained and finely chopped
- 8 slices Monterey Jack cheese with jalapeno chilies cut 2" x 1" x 1/4" (about 4 oz.)
- 4 hamburger buns, split and toasted
- 1/4 cup taco sauce or salsa
make it
1. Mix ground beef, onion and chilies. Shape mixture into 8 thin patties. Mound about 1/4 of chopped mushrooms on center of 4 of the patties. Top each with 2 slices of cheese. Place remaining beef patties on top; pinch edges to seal securely.
2. Cover and grill patties 4 to 5 inches from medium coals 14 to 16 minutes, turning once, until burgers are slightly firm when pressed in center. Serve on hamburger buns with taco sauce or salsa and, if desired, sliced onions.
