- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/4 cup whipping cream
- 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 2 apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 pkg. (18.25 oz.) dark chocolate cake mix
- 1 1/4 cups water
- 1/3 cup oil
- 3 eggs
- Whipped cream
- Caramel topping

Step 1: Heat oven to 325*F. In a small heavy saucepan, combine butter, whipping cream, and brown sugar. Cook over low heat just until butter melts, stirring occasionally. Pour into 13x9-inch pan; arrange apple slices over brown sugar mixture.
Step 2: Prepare cake batter as directed on package. Carefully spoon over mixture in pan.
Step 3: Bake for 40-50 minutes. Cool 5 minutes. Run knife between cake and pan sides. Turn upside-down onto serving platter. Cool for 30 minutes.
Step 4: Serve warm with a dollop of whipped cream and caramel topping.
