what you need
- 2 squares (1 ounce each) unsweetened chocolate
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 pinch salt
- 4 squares (1 ounce each) semi-sweet chocolate
- 1 1/4 cups chopped pecans
make it
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease an 8" square baking pan.
2. In saucepan over low heat, melt unsweetened chocolate and butter, stirring occasionally. Let cool.
3. In large mixing bowl, beat the eggs, sugar, and vanilla. Fold in the melted chocolate. Sift together the flour and salt and add to mixture, stirring lightly. Chop the semi-sweet chocolate in coarse chunks and add to the mixture, along with the pecans. Mix until just blended. Pour batter into pan and smooth top.
4. Bake about 25 minutes. Let cool before cutting into bars.
Notes
One can substitute favorite nuts in this recipe; I use walnuts instead of the pecans. Also, depending on the oven, one may need to cook the brownies a little longer. Be careful; these guys are addictive! My boyfriend couldn't get enough of these!
*To cut some calories out of this rich dessert, omit the nuts and use Splenda in place of regular sugar. In my opinion, it tastes just as good.
