what you need
- 6 lb. red-delicious apples, peeled, cored, and quartered
- 2 1/2 cups Veryfine Apple Juice
- 1 tsp. lemon zest
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 Tbsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 12 oz. jar honey

In large saucepan, bring apples and juice to a boil. Reduce heat to low. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until apples are tender and puffy (approx. 1 hour).
Process mixture in food processor until smooth. Return pulp to pan. Add remaining ingredients. Place over medium/high heat. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to low. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until thickened (approx 1 hour).
Spoon into jars. Screw on lids, turn upside down until pops.
Notes
My son just loves apple butter, so I wanted to find a recipe that I could make, that he would like. I found many recipes, but none of them really appealed to me, so I took the parts of each that I liked and formed my own recipe out of a few different varieties. I use crisp, juicy, red delicious apples because I like the flavor. Substitute your favorite apple to get the flavor you enjoy.
