what you need
- 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 6 Tbsp. cocoa powder, divided
- 1/2 cup milk (your preference)
- 2 Tbsp. butter (1/2 stick), melted
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups boiling water
- 1/2 cup of chopped nuts (optional)
make it
Preheat oven to 350°F. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, granulated sugar, and 2 Tbsp. of cocoa into large bowl. Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla mixing ONLY until smooth. Stir in optional nuts. Transfer into an oiled 1 quart (10x6) baking dish.
In a medium bowl, combine the brown sugar and the remaining 4 Tbsp. cocoa; sprinkle over the top of the chocolate mixture. DO NOT MIX IN. Pour the boiling water over all and DO NOT MIX IN.
Bake for 40 minutes or until the top appears to be firm. Remove from oven and allow to stand for 10 minutes before cutting into squares. Serve warm, pudding side up.
Notes
This pudding has a brownie feel to it. Wonderful self made sauce that forms while baking. Very quick and easy to prepare. Whenever I make this there is rarely any left for the next day!!! Everyone loves this quick and twisted take on a brownie.
If the dessert is made in advance, it can be covered with foil and reheated in a low oven or into the microwave.
