what you need
- 5 lb. ground beef
- 1 1/2 cup instant rice
- 1 lg. onion
- 1 egg
- 1 head cabbage
- 3 cans sauerkraut
- 3 cans diced tomatoes
- 3 cups dice ham
make it
Mix beef, rice, onion and egg in large bowl. Boil cabbage whole in a large pan peeling off leaf by leaf. Roll beef mixture into tennis size balls. Press into cabbage leafs at the top [core end]. Roll up while folding in as you roll, and repeat.
In a large baking pan layer first 1 can sauerkraut, 1can tomatoes, 1 cup ham, and then lay rolls down on the top. Repeat with all and top with kraut, tomato and ham.
Bake at 350°F for 2 hours 45 minutes.
Notes
You should have two rolls of 12 and there 2 per serving. I was passed this on from my grandfather from Poland and when I make this I have a list of family and friends claiming their share. Also great for potlucks!!
