what you need
- Old Fashioned Quaker Oats (not quick-cooking)
- Fat-free half-n-half or evaporated skimmed milk
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, plus 1 tsp per serving, divided
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- Dried cranberries
- Chopped pecans
- Bananas (optianal)
make it
Follow the directions on the Quaker Oat package for 2 servings, except: substitute milk for water, and combine oats and milk together. Stir in brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and cranberries. (I usually add a bit more milk, as we prefer our oatmeal creamy.)
Cook according to package directions.
In individual serving bowls, put a tsp. of brown sugar, a serving of oatmeal, top with pecans. Pour additional half-n-half around edge of bowl. If desired, add sliced bananas.
Notes
You can omit the cranberries and nuts, if you prefer, or substitute any other dried fruit. This is really good with toasted English muffins.
