what you need
- 1 cups water
- 2 cubes margarine
- 5 Tbsp. Hershey's Chocolate Cocoa (very heaping)
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
make it
Bring water and margarine to a boil. Whisk in the heaping tablespoons of Hershey's Baking Chocolate. Return to boil then simmer. Stir flour, sugar and baking soda together. Pour boiling mixture over dry ingredients and stir until well mixed. Beat eggs into the buttermilk and pour over the batter. Stir all until very well mixed.
Spray 9x13 glass baking pan with Pam. Pour batter into pan.
Bake at 400°F for 20-25 minutes. (Yes, 400 degrees! However, my new oven is HOT so I set it at 390°F.)
Notes
My family has enjoyed this cake for 40+ years and they are still requesting it.
NOTE: Do not substitute baking chocolate for a cheaper brand.
No need to sift dry ingredients.
Cake is done when a knife inserted in the middle comes out clean. It doesn't always pull away from the pan.
