Almost Killer Brownies

what you need
  • 1 pkg. (14 oz.) caramels
  • 2/3 cup evaporated milk, divided
  • 1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix
  • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) butter, melted
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup nuts, chopped
  • 1 pkg. (12 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate chips
make it
Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 13"x9" pan. In a saucepan, melt the caramels and 1/3 cup of the evaporated milk.

In a large bowl, mix the cake mix, remaining 1/3 cup of evaporated milk, melted butter, vanilla and nuts. Pour half of the cake mixture into the pan. Bake for 6 minutes.

Remove cake from the oven. Sprinkle with the chocolate chips and pour caramel over the top. Cover with remaining cake mixture. Bake 25 minutes. Cool completely before cutting.

Rated  by a cook on 11/29/2004 Easy to make... just be prepared that the brownie mixture can be hard to spread for the final layer and they're very gooey if they don't cool long enough. Only thing I didn't like was that they were all gone at a party by the time I went back to get my dish.
