Buttermilk Chocolate Cake

what you need
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup shortening or oil
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk with rounded teaspoon soda
  • 6 heaping teaspoons cocoa powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
make it
Mix all ingredients and then dump in 1 cup boiling water.

Bake in round pans for 25 minutes or cupcakes for 13 minutes at 350 degrees F. Bake mini cupcakes for 9 minutes.
The buttermilk gives this cake a most unique flavor. I use the buttermilk powder and mix according to the package instructions.
