Makes: 6 dozen depending on size Total Time: 2 hr 30 min
Category: Cookies Sub Category: Other

what you need
  • 3 cups butter
  • 7 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 16 cups flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
make it
Cream butter, sugar and eggs in a very large bowl. Add milk and vanilla. Mix well. Then add dry ingredients. Mix till combined.

Depending on the temperature of your kitchen this may need to be chilled a little. I usually take some dough out then store the rest in the fridge till I'm ready to roll out more.

Roll out to desired thickness (the thicker the cookie the softer it will be). Be sure to flour the rolling pin and board well (I use powdered sugar instead of flour) Dip your cutters in flour before cutting the dough. Cut into desired shapes.

Bake in a 375°F oven for 6-8 minutes, till very lightly browned around the edges. Let cool on cookie racks, then frost and decorate.
This recipe came from my grandmother's very good friend who used to be a cook in a logging camp in Idaho. That explains the size of the recipe.

I usually will 1/2 the recipe if I'm just making it for a small party, but this great for Christmas cooking with the kids!

This recipe makes a nice soft cookie, until my Grandma gave me this recipe I always had hard(crispy) cookies. But this makes them soft nearly everytime.

I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as my family does! Enjoy!
