Cherry Chocolate Cookies

what you need
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 10 oz. jar maraschino cherries
  • 1 cup Baker's Semi-Sweet Chocolate Pieces (8 oz.)
  • 1/2 cup condensed milk
make it
Preheat oven to 350°F. Sift flour, cocoa, salt, baking powder and baking soda together in a large bowl. Set aside.

Beat margarine and sugar together till fluffy. Add egg and vanilla and beat well. Add sifted ingredients and blend well.

Shape into 1" balls, and place on cookie sheet and press thumb into center. Drain cherries (reserving juice) and place a cherry into the center of each cookie.

In a saucepan combine the chocolate pieces and milk. Heat until chocolate melts. Add 4 tsp. of the reserved cherry juice. Spoon a tsp. of chocolate mixture over the cherry on each cookie.

Bake 10 minutes. Cool on wire rack.
Notes
Chocolate mixture may be thinned with a little more of the reserved juice if necessary.
