Texas Style Chicken Fried Steak

what you need
  • 6 cube steaks
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups shortening
make it
Salt and pepper steaks to taste. Whisk together egg and buttermilk in one bowl, place flour in another.

Dip steaks in buttermilk mixture, then place in flour, gently pressing the steak into the flour. Repeat this step once.

Place steaks in hot shortening and cook until golden brown. Drain steaks on paper towels. Use the leftover flour to make cream gravy. Enjoy!
Notes
I live in Texas where chicken fried steak is a staple of any cook. I got this recipe from a favorite restaraunt where I live. It's great with fries, mashed, or baked potatoes.
