Banana French Toast

what you need
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 slices of wheat/white/or breakfast bread (ex. cinnamon-raisin bread)
  • 1 Tbsp. butter or light margarine
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup (use light syrup for fewer calories)
  • 1 med to lg banana, sliced
make it
1. Spray skillet with butter flavored non-stick spray and place on burner at med heat.

2. Beat milk and egg together then pour into shallow dish. Individually soak each slice of bread on both sides in mixture then place in skillet.

3. Allow to cook on med/high heat for 3-5 minutes. Turn slices over midway thru cooking time or until lightly golden brown.

4. Place french toast slices on plate and cut diagonally, set aside.

5. In same skillet put butter or margarine and syrup and let melt. Then add banana slices and stir until heated and bananas are tender (about 2 min. Then pour over French toast and serve immediately.
My child loves this once a week as a special treat but it's easy enough to do even on a busy morning. Older children can do this recipe very easily.

You can make up your own variations instead of banana like 1/2 cup cherry pie filling, or apple pie filling. Add whip cream or powdered sugar as extra topping.

Make it healthy by using low carb bread/low fat milk/ light syrup with fresh fruit.

Rated  by claryk2 on 2/15/2009 This was soooo good, the bananas added such depth to the flavor. I used egg beaters, ww bread, and sugar free syrup and it was awesome. I only used about 2-3 T syrup but it was for one serving.
