Makes: 20 pieces Total Time: 1 hr 30 min
Category: Desserts Sub Category: Cakes

what you need
  • 3/4 cup pecans, chopped
  • 1 cup flaked coconut
  • 1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix (or your own recipe)
  • 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
  • 3-1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1 cup butter, melted
make it
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan. Sprinkle pecans evenly on bottom of prepared pan, then coconut. Prepare cake mix as directed on the package. Pour cake batter evenly over pecans and coconut.

In mixing bowl, beat cream cheese until soft. Add confectioners' sugar. Beat until smooth and then add melted butter. Mix well. Pour cream cheese mixture gently over cake batter, keeping it at least 1-inch away from the edge of the pan.

Place cake in oven on a baking sheet (in case cake spills over the edge of the pan). Bake for 1 hour 20 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely and cut into pieces.
Notes
This is a great cake for a picnic.
