what you need
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla
make it
Cream butter, shortening and sugar till fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add flour and salt alternately with milk and vanilla.

Pour into a previously greased and floured bundt pan or tube pan.

DO NOT PREHEAT OVEN. Bake in a 325 degrees F oven for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center of cake tests clear.
EXTREMELY IMPORTANT--always start baking your cake in a cold oven. DO NOT PREHEAT. This is the secret to the moisture of your cake.

Also, to make it easier to grease and flour your cake pan, I have found that if you mix the shortening and flour together into a paste and then grease your pan, it will eliminate the necessity of flouring the pan and will also eliminate the clumps of flour that will collect in the odd places in your pan.
