what you need
- 1 tablespoon shortening
- 1 1/2 pounds round steak, cut into 1" cubes
- 1 envelope brown gravy mix
- 2 cups water
- 1 Tbsp. dried minced onion
- 1 Tbsp. light brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp. white-wine vinegar
- 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 tsp. ground ginger
- 1 bay leaf
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. pepper
- 1 bag (16 ounce) wide egg noodles
make it
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Heat shortening in large skillet over medium-high heat. Add steak; cook until browned, about 10 minutes. Remove and place in a medium casserole.
2. Add gravy mix and water to skillet. Bring mixture to a boil, stirring constantly.
3. Add dried onion, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, ginger, bay leaf, salt and pepper to skillet. Pour sauce over steak.
4. Bake, covered, until steak is tender, about 1 hour or so more. Discard bay leaf. Mound hot noodles onto a serving platter. Spoon steak mixture over noodles. ENJOY!!!
Notes
You can make a quick and inexpensive pot pie supper by spooning leftover sauerbraten into individual baking dishes. Top each with a piece of puff pastry and bake at 350°F until the pastry is golden brown.
