Peggy's Italian Cookies

what you need
  • 2/3 C. sugar
  • 1/2 t. cloves
  • 1/2 t. all spice
  • 1/4 t. nutmeg
  • 3/4 C. sugar
  • 1/2 C. butter, softened (not margarine)
  • 4 C. flour
  • 2t. baking powder
  • 1/8 t. baking soda
  • 6 T. cocoa
  • 1 t. vanilla
  • 1/2 t. almond flavor
  • 3 eggs slightly beaten
  • juice of one orange
  • 1/2 C. orange concentrate (not diluted)
  • 1/2 C. Chopped walnuts
  • 1 C. powdered sugar
  • add enough pet milk to make a thin paste.

In Large Bowl beat together butter,sugar,spices, flavorings, juices and eggs until smooth about 2-3 min. Stir in flour,sugar,baking powder, baking soda and walnuts until thoroughly mixed.
spoon out by tablespoon roll into a ball. put on greased cookie sheet or parchment paper. cook on 350 degrees for 12-15 min. Put on paper towel to cool. While still slightly warm dip each cookie in the powdered sugar mixture until coated. Put back on paper towel until cool. Place in large container.
This recipe is from my ex-husband's mother, who got it from his grandmother. These are the real thing and yummy. I like the white ones too, just don't add the cocoa.
