Short Cut Black Forest Cake

what you need
  • 1 box dark chocolate cake mix
  • 2 tablespoons Kirsh (cherry brandy) optional
  • 1 can cherry pie filling
  • 1 pint heavy whipping cream
  • 1-2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • Chocolate shavings to garnish
make it
Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking dish. Prepare chocolate cake according to directions on box. After baking, let cake cool completely.

With the handle of a wooden spoon, poke holes randomly into top of cake. If using, sprinkle Kirsh over top of cake. Spread cherry pie filling evenly over top of cake.

In a chilled bowl, whip heavy cream with powdered sugar until nice and fluffy. Spread evenly over the cherry pie filling. Garnish with chocolate shavings.

Rated  by GabiClark on 4/9/2009 Thank you! for this great recipe! I made it with the cherry brandy, in addition I used marashino cherries for the garnish. I used the juice of those cherries to mix with the brandy, and sprinkled that over the cake. I also mixed some brandy into the pie filling. FANTASTIC! This turned out to be as close to the real thing as you're gonna get!
