Warm Sour Cabbage

what you need
  • 5 cups shredded cabbage
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 1 can evaporated milk
  • 1/3 cup vinegar or more to taste
  • 3 tablespoons sugar - more or less
  • 1 egg
make it
Cook cabbage on low with butter, water, salt and pepper in covered saucepan until limp.

Mix milk, vinegar and sugar in a bowl. Whisk in egg until mixed.

Pour milk mixture over cabbage in saucepan and cook on low, stirring until slightly thickened and egg is cooked.
Notes
This is an old Dutch recipe my Grandmother would serve warm over mashed potatoes with roast beef.
