Q1. My child has a food allergy. How do I know which Kraft products he or she can safely eat?

Read the ingredient information on the product label to see if the potential allergen is present. If it is, your child should not eat the product. Q2. What are soft cheeses?

"Soft cheeses" are those with a high moisture content and a soft texture like feta, ricotta, brie, camembert or Mexican soft-style cheese (queso fresco). This category does not include cream cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt or processed cheese.

Q3. I've heard that some people should not eat soft cheeses. Can I eat your feta and ricotta cheeses?

We use pasteurized milk in our feta and ricotta cheeses. Because pasteurization eliminates harmful bacteria, we are confident that our products are safe and wholesome to eat. If you have a concern about eating soft cheeses, you should consult your physician. Q4. Which of your cheeses are pasteurized?

All Kraft cheeses are either pasteurized or heat-treated along with other processes such as curing or aging to maintain quality and wholesomeness. Because of our stringent quality control procedures, we are confident that all Kraft cheeses are safe and wholesome to eat.

Q5. What do you do to make sure that Kraft products are safe?

Q6. I've heard some people should not eat hot dogs or sliced luncheon meats. Can I eat your hot dogs and sliced luncheon meats?

Because we have stringent quality control, environmental testing and sanitation procedures in place during manufacturing, we are confident that our hot dogs and sliced luncheon meat products are safe to eat.

As an extra precaution, thoroughly heat until steaming left-over foods or ready-to-eat foods such as hot dogs and other pre-cooked sausages.

Q7. How do I make sense of a Julian Code Date that appears on some food packages?

A Julian Code Date lists the date and location the product was manufactured. An example of a Julian Code would be:
9003A22

In this example, the "9" designates the year (1999). The next three digits "003", designate day number 3 of the 365 days in a year. So we know this product was manufactured on January 3, 1999. The next letter "A" identifies the production plant and the "22" represents the shift and the line number.

Q8. What's the meaning of the "Best When Used By" statement that appears on some product packaging?

This date indicates the month, day and year after which the item should not be used. For example, MAR 03 99 means the product is best when used by the date of March 3, 1999. The "Best When Used By" date assures you that a product is at peak freshness when purchased and will stay fresh when stored unopened under proper home storage conditions. When shopping, be sure to look for "Best When Used By" dates. At home, check the date again periodically and try to use the product before this date expires.

The "Best When Purchased By" date is the date by which the product should either be purchased by the consumer or removed from store shelves by the retailer.
