Great Grill Tools

A few helpers can make grilling easier and more flavorful. Here’s what to keep close by.

The right tools can liven up your grilled dishes—and make cooking and cleanup a snap. Here’s what to make sure you have ready for your grilling pleasure.

Foil.

Use it to wrap meat, vegetables, and other ingredients into individual sealed packets that cook on top of the grill. You can make one packet for each person, which is great if one family member hates onions. Check out the Kraft Barbecue Chicken Packet recipe for the best technique for folding the foil around the food. Another idea: Grill a side dish of Sensational Foil-Pack Vegetables alongside your usual burgers.

Kabob skewers.

They can also make meals super-easy. Pineapple Chicken Kabobs give you a little fruit, vegetable, and meat all on one stick. Wooden skewers need to be soaked for 30 minutes before grilling so they won’t char, while stainless-steel skewers can be washed and reused. Check out kraftstore.com for skewers that are dishwasher-safe.

Planks.

If you haven’t tried cedar plank grilling yet, put it on your summer to-do list. It infuses foods like Grilled Cedar-Planked Salmon with a smoky flavor and gives off a heavenly aroma. Untreated cedar, oak, maple, cherry, and apple wood planks are available in both food stores and hardware stores. (Just plan to soak the plank in water for at least 4 hours—you can do it overnight.) When the fish is done, serve it up and toss out the plank. Cleanup doesn’t get much easier than that!
