What makes these Jell-O Ready-to-Eat Gelatin and Pudding cups so great?

Good question! We’ve made a few ingredient changes to our Original Gelatin Snacks. We also made packaging changes to all of our Gelatin and Pudding Snacks to better communicate the things that matter most to consumers.

Here’s the specifics.

JELL-O Original Gelatin Snacks

  • JELL-O Original Gelatin Snacks are made with fruit juices and no high-fructose corn syrup. JELL-O Original Gelatin Snacks are made with a 10% fruit juice blend from concentrate. (Fruit juice concentrates are fruit juices that have had a portion of the naturally occurring water removed to make the juice easier to store, transport and distribute. When used in our Original Gelatin Snacks, the juice concentrates are fully restored to the original fruit juice concentration.) Pretty juicy, huh?
  • And, as always, JELL-O Original Gelatin Snacks contain no artificial preservatives and no artificial sweeteners.

JELL-O Original Pudding Snacks

  • As always, JELL-O Original Pudding Snacks are made with milk.
  • JELL-O Original Pudding Snacks also contain no high-fructose corn syrup, artificial preservatives or artificial sweeteners.
  • Same great taste! (Yay!)

Why did you making these changes?

In the past, we spent time talking with a number of you about the role JELL-O could play in your lives. We realized we were missing an opportunity to talk about some of the really positive things our products have to offer. For instance, our Original and Sugar Free Pudding and Gelatin Snacks contain no artificial preservatives, and our Original Pudding Snacks have always been made with milk.  We also saw an opportunity to make some changes to our product ingredients to be more in line with what families are looking for. That’s why we removed high-fructose corn syrup and added fruit juices to our Original Gelatin Snacks.

Why add 10% fruit juice? Doesn’t it just add more sugar?

No it won’t! The nutrition profile of the products is not changing at this time. When we added fruit juice, we reduced the amount of additional sugar added to keep the total sugar and calories the same.

Why did you shift from high-fructose corn syrup to sugar? Is it healthier?

People like you told us they preferred JELL-O products made without high-fructose corn syrup, so we’ve removed it from our four Original Gelatin Snacks (Strawberry, Orange, Raspberry and Blueberry). No other Gelatin and Pudding Snacks use high-fructose corn syrup.

Do these changes impact the taste, color or texture of the product?

With the addition of fruit juice to our Original Gelatin Snacks, you may notice a small difference in the taste and appearance of the product. We have worked hard to make sure we are delivering a product with fruit juices and no high-fructose corn syrup that you’ll love. We think it tastes even better! All other Gelatin and Pudding Snacks will maintain the same taste, color and texture as before.

Why call out “made with milk”?

Our research showed us that a lot of people didn’t know our Original Pudding Snacks are made with milk. Our Original Pudding Snacks continue to use skim milk in the recipe.

Have you made changes to your Sugar Free Gelatin and Pudding Snacks?

We have. Coming soon, a new line of JELL-O mixes that have no artificial flavors, dyes or preservatives will be available in a store near you.

Have you made changes to your Dry Pudding and Gelatin Mixes?

We have refreshed the packaging on our Dry Pudding and Gelatin Mixes but have not made any changes to our recipe.

Are you removing the synthetic colors and artificial flavors in JELL-O? If not, why?

We have a number of product recipe changes in the works; however, removing synthetic colors and artificial flavors is not on the list for this year. Making recipe changes isn’t as simple as it seems. All of the ingredients have to work together to deliver the distinctive taste and appearance that consumers expect in our products. Until we’re confident we have the right recipe, we are not going to change the product.

Are synthetic colors bad for you?

Not at all. The synthetic colors have been thoroughly studied for decades. Scientific consensus on safety is very important when we look at what ingredients to use. And we’re not the only ones saying so. These colors are deemed safe for use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). And the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and Health Canada share the FDA’s perspective that these colors are safe for use in foods.

Having said that, we also listen to consumers, so if we can make recipe changes that don’t compromise taste expectation, we’ll try to make it happen.

Will JELL-O be making more changes in the future?

We have a number of product ingredient changes planned for the next few years for both our Gelatin and Pudding Snacks, as well as our Dry Mixes. For instance, a new line of JELL-O mixes that have no artificial flavors, dyes or preservatives will be coming soon. You’ll continue to see more recipe changes next year and beyond. We are always striving to better meet consumers’ needs.
